I don't even have words to describe how important dispatchers are and what you guys go through. People don't see you so they don't know. Thank you thank you thank you for your service.
And please don't forget The Red Cross. Although not a "first responder" they are there in the muck with everyone. I am a former disaster responder who wishes desperately I could be there now. Please read what I just posted as well. It will resonate here in this group. My prayers are with all victims and sufferers--ALL!
Chellie, there are so many heroes in all of this. I can't speak to the experiences of Red Cross workers as I have never been one or worked closely with them. But I sure get your feeling of wanting to be there. Thank you for your service.
I was just asking my daughter, "What is Christy's perspective on the fires in LA?" And before she could answer, your "thoughts" appeared - so well documented. I'm with Lisa (when she gets back from NY) helping to make signs.
Thank you for writing this. I will share it with our city council members in Oakland and our police commission. And everyone else I know. Take care of yourself.
Thank you for taking us behind the scenes of emergency work. I learned so much from this post. Love and respect and thanks to firefighters, police, dispatchers, and all who are out there fighting the fight for us.
Thank you Christy for continuing to tell our story...just the technicalities of ordering up the Statewide resources for Strike Teams and Task Forces are daunting. Here is where all of our training for the Incident Command System comes together, following our orders and accomplishing the mission bringing some resolution to this chaos. Blessed are the peacemakers...and their families!
Thank you for broadening my understanding of the roles of so many different first responders / public servants in a massive situation like these LA fires
And signs for the EMTs & medics, too!! 🙏🏼
Really important. I'm linking this to my FB page.
Thank you Ellen. And thank you for your tireless work in taking care of all of us.
Sending so much love to my emergency services family. In times like this, I feel a primal pull to get back to work.
Thank you for remembering dispatchers.... we are so often forgotten.

You may be retired, but you are still doing the good work. Thank you for your words, and for being a first-rate, A+ human being. xo

Thank you Carol!
This is such a great--and important--perspective. Thank you for sharing it with all of us.

Thank you Penny! I also wrote a book called Flash Point: A Firefighter's Journey Through PTSD. It's like that Substack x 100.
Beautifully written and so insightful and compassionate. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this, Christy. So very important!
I too am going to link this to my FB feed. 🙏

Thank you Christy for sharing the roles of so many tireless responders.
I mean, even I was like, I wonder if they'll need Cliff Rescue volunteers for something. :-( Retired and praying for rain in NorCal...
100%
